
Ingredients
1 cup Rice, washed
¾ cup Tovar dal, washed
Salt to taste
½ tsp Turmeric powder
For Tempering/Tadka
1 tbsp Ghee
1 tsp Cumin seeds
2-3 Cloves
2 Dry Red chillies
½ tsp Asafoetida
1 tsp Green chillies, chopped
½ cup Onions, chopped
1 tsp Ginger garlic paste
2 tbsp Nimbu achaar masala
Salt to taste
½ tsp Turmeric powder
Coriander leaves, for garnish
Process
- Add the washed tovar dal and rice to a pressure cooker along with 4 cups water.
- Add in salt and turmeric powder, mix and close with a lid. Cook till 3 whistles.
- Now for the tadka, heat ghee in a kadhai. Add in cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add in cloves and broken dry red chillies. Fry for a minute and add asafoetida.
- Add in the onions and ginger garlic paste. Cook till the onions turn translucent.
- Now add the aachar paste, adjust salt, turmeric powder. Mix everything together and let the masalas cook for 3-4 minutes.
- Now once the pressure releases out of the cooker, open the lid and mix the khichdi.
- Add the prepared tadka to the khichdi and mix everything together.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
