उकडीचे मोदक | Ukadiche Modak Recipe
Celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi with soft, steamed Ukadiche Modak filled with sweet coconut, jaggery, nuts and aromatic spices. A traditional Maharashtrian festive favourite!

Ingredients
For Dough
- 1½ cup Water, पानी
- ½ cup Milk, दूध
- A pinch Salt, नमक
- 1 tbsp Ghee, घी
- 2 cups Fine Rice flour, चावल का आटा
- 1 tbsp Ghee, घी
For Stuffing
- 1½ cups Jaggery, गुड
- 3 cups Coconut, grated, नारियल
- ½ tbsp Poppy seeds, खसखस
- 1 tsp Cardamom powder, इलायची पाउडर
- ¼ tsp Nutmeg powder, जायफल का पाउडर
- 5-6 Cashew nuts, chopped, काजू
- 5-6 Almonds, chopped, बादाम
Other Ingredients
- A pinch Saffron, soaked in milk, दूध में भीगा हुआ केसर
Process
For Dough
- In a kadai, add water, milk and give it a boil.
- Add a pinch of salt, rice flour, ghee and make a soft dough.
- Whisk it with the help of a rolling pin and mix it well.
- Cover it with a lid and cook on low heat for 5 minutes.
- Transfer it to a parat, add ghee and knead it well.
- Keep it aside for further use.
For Stuffing
- In a pan, add jaggery and cook for 3-4 minutes until it melts on medium flame.
- Add grated coconut, poppy seeds, cardamom powder, nutmeg powder, cashewnut, almonds and mix it well.
- Cook it for 4-5 minutes or until the mixture is dry.
- Transfer it to a tray and let it cool at room temperature.
For Ukadiche Modak
- Take a lemon sized dough, spread it with the finger or roll it with a rolling pin.
- Place the mixture in the center, pinch the edges to create the pleats and close the edges.
- Heat the water in a steamer, place the prepared modak and add some saffron milk on top of the modak.
- Cover it with the lid and cook it for 10-12 minutes on medium flames.
- Transfer it to a serving dish and serve hot.
