Assam style Fish curry खट्टी मच्छी करी की आसान रेसिपी Masor Tenga Fish Curry

It's been a while since we last made a Fish curry. Here's my simple recipe based on the famous Assam Sour Fish curry also called Masor Tenga.

Ingredients

For Fish Marination

1kg Carp fish (Rohu) cut into darne, रोहू मछली

Salt to taste, नमक स्वादअनुसार

1 tsp Turmeric powder, हल्दी पाउडर

 

For Shallow Frying Fish & Potatoes

3-4 tbsp Mustard oil, सरसों का तेल

Marinated Fish, मैरीनेटेड मछली

3-4 no. large Potatoes, cut into wedges, आलू

 

For Assamese Style Fish Curry

2-3 tbsp Mustard oil, सरसों का तेल

¼ tsp dry Fenugreek seeds, मेथी दाना

¼ tsp small Mustard seeds, छोटी राई

¼ tsp Onion seeds, कलौंजी

2 no. dry Red chili, सूखी लाल मिर्च

2-3 no. Green chillies (less spicy & slit into middle) हरी मिर्च

4-5 no. medium Tomatoes, cut into diced, टमाटर

Salt to taste, नमक स्वादअनुसार

½ tsp Turmeric powder, हल्दी पाउडर

1 tsp Degi red chili powder, देगी लाल मिर्च पाउडर

Fried potatoes, तले हुए आलू

2-3 cups Water, पानी

2 tbsp fresh Coriander leaves, finely chopped, धनिया पत्ता

Fried fish, तली हुई मछली

2 tsp Lemon juice, नींबू का रस

 

For Garnish

Coriander sprig, धनिया पत्ता

Process

For Fish Marination

  • In a bowl or tray, add fish, salt to taste, turmeric powder and coat it well.
  • Keep it aside to marinate for 5-10 minutes.

 

For Shallow Frying Fish & Potatoes

  • In a pan, add mustard oil, once it’s hot, add marinated fish and fry it for 2-3 minutes.
  • Flip it and cook it well, transfer it to a plate or tray and keep it aside for further use.
  • Add potatoes in the same pan and fry until golden in color or half cooked.
  • Transfer it to a plate or tray and keep it aside for further use.

 

For Assamese Style Fish Curry

  • In a kadai or handi, add mustard oil, once it’s hot, add dry fenugreek seeds, small mustard seeds, onion seeds, dry red chillies and let it splutter well.
  • Add green chillies, tomatoes, salt to taste and cook it for 5-6 minutes until mushy.
  • Add turmeric powder, degi red chili powder, fried potatoes and cook for a while until cooked well.
  • Add water and get a quick boil.
  • Add coriander leaves, fried fish and cook for 5-6 minutes on low flame.
  • Finish it with some lemon juice and mix it gently.
  • Transfer it into the serving bowl or dish and garnish it with coriander sprig.
  • Serve hot with rice.
