
Ingredients
For marination
1 Whole Hilsa Fish (Ilish Macher)
2 tsp Turmeric powder
Salt to taste
For the Gravy
6 tbsp Mustard Oil
3 tsp Turmeric powder
Salt to taste
Marinated fish
1 tbsp Kalonji
1 tbsp Mustard Seeds
3-4 Green Chillies, slit
Chopped coriander leaves, for garnishing
Process
For marination
- Clean fish with water & pad dry
- Marinade the fish with salt and turmeric powder.
- Keep aside for further use.
For Gravy
- In a small bowl, add salt, turmeric and water to make a thin paste. Keep aside for further use.
- In a kadhai, heat mustard oil till smokes.
- Once it starts smoking, add fish and shallow fry till done.
- Drain the fish in a paper towel and keep aside for further use.
- In the same oil, add kalonji, mustard seeds and green chillies, sear them for a minute.
- Add the turmeric and salt mixture. Cook it for 2-3 minutes on high flame or until moisture evaporates.
- Add marinated fish and stir carefully to avoid breaking, for the masala to coat through it.
- Add water as required and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- Garnish with coriander leaves.
- Serve hot with rice.
