For Boiling Dal

2 cups Chana dal, soaked, चना दाल

1 cup Masoor dal, soaked, मसूर की दाल

1 cup Urad dal, soaked, उड़द दाल

4-5 cups Water, पानी

½ tsp Turmeric powder, हल्दी पाउडर

½ tsp Degi red chili powder, देगी लाल मिर्च पाउडर

Salt to taste, नमक स्वादअनुसार


For Masala

1 tsp Cumin seeds, जीरा

1 tbsp Black peppercorns, काली मिर्च के दाने

Salt to taste, नमक स्वादअनुसार

2 tsp Ghee, घी


For Tempering

2 tbsp Oil, तेल

2 tbsp Ghee, घी

2 medium Onion, chopped, प्याज़

4-5 Garlic cloves, chopped, लहसुन

2-3 tbsp Curd, beaten, दही

Boiled Dal, उबली हुई दाल

Salt to taste, नमक स्वादअनुसार

1 ½ tbsp Prepared Masala, तैयार किया हुआ मसाला

1 tbsp Coriander leaves, chopped, धनिया पत्ता

2-3 tbsp Ghee, घी (for Finishing)


For Garnish

Coriander sprig, धनिया पत्ता


For Boiling Dal

  • In a pressure cooker, add chana dal, masoor dal, urad dal, water, turmeric powder, degi red chili powder and salt to taste.
  • Cover it with a lid and cook for 2-3 whistles or until the dal is cooked well.
  • Keep aside for further use.

For Masala

  • In a pan, add cumin seeds, black peppercorns, salt to taste, ghee and roast it well.
  • Transfer it to a grinder jar and grind into a fine paste.
  • Keep aside for further use.


For Tempering

  • In a handi or deep kadai, add oil, ghee. Once it’s hot, add onions and sauté for 2-4 minutes on medium flame or until golden in color.
  • Add garlic cloves and sauté it well. Add curd and cook well.
  • Add cooked dal and mix everything well. Add salt to taste.
  • With the help of a wooden spoon, mash the dal and let it cook on medium flame for 5-10 minutes or until thick.
  • Add prepared masala and mix well. Add coriander leaves, finish it with melted ghee and give it a boil.
  • Transfer it into a serving dish and garnish it with coriander sprig.
  • Serve hot with naan.


For Finishing

  • In a pan, add ghee once it’s melted, keep aside for further use.


  1. great////but alittle softer mild coz there is no much chilli .but still i think i will just try to eat with toppings of ginger salli and green mirchi diced as i do in keechdaor in paya ,very good nice mild for all can enjoy full thanku ranveer
