Spicy Dal Gosht recipe दाल मीट बनाने का तरीका punjabi Dal मीट दालवाला मटन

Some recipes linger on in our memory forever. Dal Meat/Gosht is one such recipe for me. In this video, I attempt to recreate a recipe that I had as a kid and hope, that I have done justice to it :)

For Marination

700 gms Mutton (with bones)  मटन

2-3 tbsp Curd, beaten, दही

½ Onion, slice, प्याज

Prepared Ginger Garlic Paste, तैयार किया हुआ अदरक लहसुन का पेस्ट

Salt to taste, नमक स्वादअनुसार

1 ½ tbsp Mustard oil, सरसों का तेल


For Ginger Garlic Paste

2 inch Ginger, roughly chopped, अदरक

6-8 Garlic cloves, लहसुन

2-3 Green chilli, हरी मिर्च

Salt to taste, नमक स्वादअनुसार


For Tempering

¼ cup Ghee, घी

2 ½ medium size Onion, slice, प्याज

Marinated Mutton, मैरीनेट किया हुआ मटन

2 Black cardamom, बड़ी इलायची

2 Bay leaf, तेजपत्ता

1 inch Cinnamon stick, दालचीनी

1 ½ tsp Degi red chilli powder, देगी लाल मिर्च पाउडर

½ tsp Turmeric powder, हल्दी पाउडर

2-3 tbsp Coriander powder, धनिया पाउडर

200 gms Chana dal, soaked, washed, चना दाल

2 tbsp Ghee, घी

Water as required, पानी जरूरत अनुसार

Prepared Tadka, तैयार किया हुआ तड़का

½ cup Hot water, गर्म पानी

2 tbsp Coriander leaves, chopped, धनिया पत्ता


For Tadka

2-3 tbsp Ghee, घी

1 tsp Cumin seeds, जीरा

8-10 Black peppercorns, crushed, काली मिर्च के दाने



For Garnish

Coriander sprig, धनिया पत्ता

Green chilli, slit, हरी मिर्च

Lemon wedge, नींबू

½ inch Ginger, julienned, अदरक


For Marination

  • In a bowl, add mutton with bones, curd, onion, prepared ginger garlic paste, salt to taste and mustard oil and marinate it well and keep it for 10-15 minutes.


For Ginger Garlic Paste

  • In a mortar pestle, add ginger, garlic cloves, green chilli, salt to taste and make a smooth paste of it.


For Tempering

  • In a large pot, add ghee once it is hot, add onion and saute until light golden brown in color.
  • Add marinated mutton and saute it well for 5 minutes. Add black cardamom, bay leaf, cinnamon stick.
  • Add degi red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and saute it well.
  • Cook for 5 more minutes. Add soaked chana dal, ghee and saute it well.
  • Add water as required and mix everything well
  • Cover it with the lid and Cook till the mutton is completely cooked well.
  • Add prepared tadka, little hot water and mix it well.
  • Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes
  • Add coriander leaves and mix well.
  • Garnish it with coriander sprig, green chilli, lemon wedge, ginger julienned.
  • Serve hot with paratha.

For Tadka

  • In a tadka pan, add ghee once it’s hot, add cumin seeds, crushed black peppercorns and saute well.
  • Keep aside for further use.
