Varan Bhaat

Ingredients

For Boiling

1 Cup Toor Dal, rinsed

2 Cups Water

Salt, to taste

¼ tsp Turmeric

For Tempering

2 tsp Ghee

½ tsp Cumin Seeds

¼ tsp Asafoetida/Hing

½ tsp Turmeric Powder

Other Ingredients

1 tbsp Jaggery/Gud, crumbled

Salt, to taste

Process

  • Heat pressure cooker on medium flame. Add toor dal along with water and mix.
  • Add salt, turmeric and mix. Cover with lid and cook for 3-4 whistles. Turn off the flame and let the pressure go off.
  • Now heat ghee in a pot on medium flame. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter. Add asafoetida, turmeric and mix till fragrant.
  • Pour in the cooked dal. Add jaggery, salt and give a nice stir. Bring it to a boil and simmer for 4-5mins.
  • Turn off the flame and serve hot with rice.
