Masoor Dal Andhra Style

1 tbsp Oil

1 tsp cumin seeds

2-3 cloves

2-3 green cardamom

1 cinnamon stick

7-8 curry leaves

1½ tsp Ginger chopped

A pinch of Asafeotida

1 medium chopped onion

Salt to taste

¼ tsp turmeric powder

1 tsp red chili powder

2 tsp coriander power

¾ cups of soaked masoor dal

Water as required

1 drumstick cut in to batons


  1. Heat oil in a pressure cooker add cumin seeds, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, curry leaves and hing.
  2. Once the aroma arises, add ginger and onions and let them sauté until golden brown.
  3. Now add the powdered spices, salt and the masoor dal. Add water cover and cook for 2-3 whistles.
  4. Let pressure subside, transfer to serving dish and serve hot.
