2 tbsp Mustard Oil (सरसों का तेल)

1 tsp Cumin Seeds (जीरा)

1 medium Onion – chopped (प्याज़)

½ tsp Degi Red Chilli Powder (देगी लाल मिर्च पाउडर)

½ tsp Turmeric Powder (हल्दी पाउडर)

2-3 fresh Green Chillies – chopped (हरी मिर्च)

1 medium Tomato – chopped (टमाटर)

Water (पानी)

1½ cup Split Black Gram – soaked (उड़द दाल)

Salt to taste (नमक स्वादानुसार)

1 tsp Cumin Seeds – roasted (जीरा)

2 tbsp Coriander Leaves – chopped (धनिया के पत्ते)



  • In a pan heat mustard oil, and add cumin seeds, let them crackle.
  • Now add onion and sauté until light brown and then add degi red chilli powder, turmeric powder, green chillies and sauté until fragrant.
  • Then add tomatoes saute for half a minute and add water, soaked split black gram, salt mix everything properly and cover and cook for 12-15 minutes or until soft.
  • Remove the lid and add crushed roasted cumin seeds, coriander leaves, mix together and serve hot.
